Manukau Sports Bowl and Velodrome

The Result:

Project Overview

Veron Building Consultants is currently engaged to deliver a coordinated renewal and upgrade of the Manukau Sports Bowl and Velodrome grandstand, a two‑storey civic facility supporting regional sporting events and community use. The project involves upgrading a 1989 building to improve performance, compliance, accessibility, and long‑term durability while maintaining ongoing public use.

Our Role

Veron is providing an integrated suite of services including building surveying, architectural design, quantity surveying, procurement support, and construction phase technical services. Our involvement spans investigation, design development, cost planning, building consent, and procurement, with construction observation to follow.

Approach

The project commenced with detailed as‑built investigations to inform coordinated design solutions addressing roof replacement, structural steel repairs, glazing upgrades, building envelope improvements, interior maintenance works, and comprehensive accessibility upgrades in accordance with NZS 4121 and NZBC requirements.

Design, cost planning, and consultant coordination are being delivered in parallel to support efficient decision‑making and controlled scope development. Building consent documentation and tender information have been prepared, with procurement support provided to assist contractor engagement. Construction phase technical support, including RFIs, clarifications, and construction observations, is scheduled as works commence.

Outcome

The project is progressing through consent and procurement, with the majority of design documentation complete. Veron’s integrated approach is providing Auckland Council with a clear, cost‑effective pathway to upgrade a complex civic facility, supporting compliance, durability, and improved accessibility while minimising disruption to public use.
