Veron Building Consultants is currently engaged by Health New Zealand to support the Kidz First and McIndoe Building recladding project at Middlemore Hospital. The project forms part of a wider remediation programme for critical healthcare facilities and requires a high level of technical rigour, coordination, and compliance oversight within an operational hospital environment.
Veron’s engagement focuses on providing independent technical input to support informed decision‑making, design robustness, and regulatory approval pathways for the recladding works.
Veron is providing independent building surveying services, including a detailed timber remediation assessment and peer review of the recladding design across preliminary, developed, detailed, and consent design stages. The role is advisory and assurance‑based, supporting the client and design team through complex remediation and approval processes.
Veron commenced the engagement with an independent assessment of the condition of external timber framing to the Kidz First and McIndoe buildings, based on visual inspection and review of marked‑up areas identified by others. The assessment focuses on confirming observed conditions, identifying areas of concern, and outlining the reasonable steps required to support council approval of remedial works.
In parallel, Veron is undertaking a staged peer review of the recladding design, providing structured red‑pen mark‑ups and action lists at each design phase. This process supports design quality, constructability, and alignment with building code requirements, while reducing risk as the project progresses toward consent and delivery.
Veron continues to coordinate with the wider project team, providing clear, independent technical input as the design develops.
The project is currently progressing through design and review stages. Veron’s involvement is providing Health New Zealand with independent assurance, technical clarity, and a structured pathway to support a complex recladding project within a live hospital environment.
By separating independent assessment and peer review from design delivery, Veron is helping to reduce risk, support regulatory confidence, and enable informed progression toward construction.
